hello my name is Kenny and I live with my family in Virunga and I'm not collecting bones and interesting stuff lot of science not that dry just not playing Barbies Fram just not doing a hair hair hair clips clips clips in her house she loved Mira Mira Mira Mira after Mira Lana looks smashing and hitting people with toys and Becca's just like screaming me although not in the ass you dad's grabs the cat and everything [Music] Kelly her three sisters and two half-sisters live on this condemned housing estate in South Birmingham [Music] with her mother Maxine they've been surviving on benefits since her stepfather left seven months ago [Music] this is dad's bed this is my bed and this one's Becker's and the dead - kitchen doors just nailed or the kitchen door it's two planks of wood and then put these two suicide [Music] it's just dumb and horrible I mean you get into your bed it's not very nice it's like it's dumb and everything's it's just all crying cars just come over and round on your bed we've been in this house almost three years now and it's been a nightmare ever since we've lived here well we've had these trouble I found this fungus when I sorry I was quite scared because it might grow loads over the wall there's some down there had the butter it's gonna start growing up here I have to sleep with another fungus on my bed it's mid-november their third winter in this house the council planned to demolish it along with the rest of the estate in the coming year with only a single gas fire to heat the whole house it can't come soon enough for Kelly and her sisters to go shopping get loads of fools over 80 on the fritz just bare just horrible we're so cold in the mornings we have to justify blasting and it doesn't even make their living really hot when we turn it on you can even feel [Music] I'm worried about my mom all of us are was all things just only through just got six kids three bedrooms and six kids she's horrible they have to help her mom now cuz she she hasn't got much things now she's losing everything she's she's lost a brother she's lost um we lost our granddad we've got lost on that because she's lost everyone she sounds happy right now because Ross I'm just trying to have a little bit she's got a bit of what she keeps going off through the tablets she's going off yeah it's really hard because I'm worried that she smokes and every time she takes a hoof she's killing herself if that's it gives you tablets tight that's okay well if you have drugs like cigarettes then that's going to kill you isn't it did not put the key through a hell of a lot that's about 14 years advantage of pressure I've been stealing in the past and so you know Madonna be here anymore if it weren't for the kids then you know I wouldn't be one point I want you to be my brother who's dead and it was the kids that brought me back keep it safe maybe because sometimes I'd end up in a heap on the floor just crying and crying and all of them it just surround you look off giving me a hug they're great absolutely brilliant [Music] look forward to go to school because it's better at sports warm it's got heroes and everything so we still you know the five room and everything could be honky - all right it's not the children at school I always make sure that they don't have some issues they stop for a hot dinner at school because I'm on benefits they get a free dinner when they come home I can't afford to put another hot meal into their bodies because that more shopping bill to be absolutely atrocious so they don't get too hot meals a day they only get one building as a small school I'm not really big because it's got a little Playa Chiefs and little sauce of pizza you've got one pound for a suspend you could only get three things you're not allowed to get loads fingers unless you've got your own woman my friends I know what I'm going through and like they'll try and help me out like I haven't got no talk money they'll give you some other talk or if I'm upset that cuts me and give me a hole push me and there's these kids I won't listen to them but they really got to me I add these air tech trainers and I was I had all these rapport 9 Turner's know this Reebok store for them they went to me oh look what you Aryan you got no you ain't got no growls wasn't all that and nine trainers you ain't got nothing it just made me upset and look Jenny sometimes goes up to means because all you little [ __ ] no yeah it's not nice but I don't listen time in the past I used to go into more charity shops because it was the only way I could afford to sort of violin clothes but the older ones if you mentioned charity shops to them no you know it's embarrassing not the fact that they're they don't want to wear the stuff it's if anybody finds out at school then they get sort of penalized for e so it's not well you know your mom shops a charity shop so that's horrible you know the younger ones mostly half the clothes passed down from the older one and my mom use a mobile hairdresser she goes around to quite a few of the ladies and they send in bags full of clothes and I'm very lucky where that's concerned [Music] my mom's mom that's our nanny she's always been there for my mom she didn't even have the money to go shopping but she had to and that when I'm then did acid money and she got through and now she says this one is girl asked me to till Monday every time my mom hasn't got no money she just comes over in because I have these oh geez my friend that I do girls wanna win sighs so granddaughter suppose ladies that's Abby Johnson Rebecca 14 oh I see I hope I am there for Maxine because I don't know why she'd be otherwise really like I dread to think I don't think she'd I think she'd survive on her own I suppose she'd after because of the girls it's nice the four girls have been absolutely marvelous they've had hard times I've really been through the mill but they all seem to just bounce back whatever life put you know throws up in your bones back east - your flair is really mine here's my shorts and let that be squishy sure they've been well looked after him she'd been a good man oh you know I'll give her a juice she's not sort of neglected them she's been there for them she's never it's just the relationships that she's Benny [Music] my mom's with my real dad and married Nigel which months of separation Maxine has decided to give her second husband another chance first driver Nigel is returning home part of the deal with me Nigel coming back together was that he saw coach Tony do two easy it gets very depressed and he's got a temper and Isis that if in order to make this work we've both got us so if either go and see a counselor together but he's got to do something separate as well I don't think she's really bright to tell you the truth to set me back on again and of course are a lot of problems in the past I have caused a lot of grief I was in an accident I lost my license well I got sent to prison for the accidents in turn can't work lose my license so I mean that was that there's nothing I could do about I knew it was coming I haven't worked the past 14 months and driving Boise's for a living is not a brilliant job but you know it's a steady job a place wise everyone can that's what I need for a family that I've got I mean was going from you know not brilliant wage but you know was doing all right then - nothing you know he'd knock anybody about that would anybody you know there was a bit of guilt there was head of a lot of good now I've just ruined everything for everybody look all because of a stupid mistake my mum's getting back with my dad I am pleased but I'm not pleased coz when he when it wasn't so good because my mum was just seeing a cabbage to the tailor and I could ask her something and she would just break down in tears and when he came back she was just really I can't believe that my mum can go back I thought she was just gonna stand around again I don't care as long as mom's happy if she wants ovum she'll stab him I like it [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] was too good to be true they frightened to death of me everything I'm happy that he's gonna saw everything cow because I'm really horrible when everything went wrong I think he just takes it out and everything [Music] two weeks have passed it's early December and Christmas is just three weeks away so far there is no sign of an early escape from their condemned house most of the morning but then I played with a bit sheds a little nap and spoke to Lee Jada pirates Barbie's mom's got shopping for a peek [Music] that went to the doctors to get some pills because he drinks and get get solved easily thing when now was on the pills it's gonna be out because I wasn't known he's really coined or Sousa better than he was I don't think he's really doing now replies divorcing he's on the pills I feel much better not just a daddy look before it's a coin that of dad that cares and that help too and I'm not a dad that screams it yeah and he really and Nigel's temper choppers are now under control but his return is causing different problems for Maxine just sorting these out to themself around the corner it's a game shop hmm sounds and boys games office let me get shortened woman just to get us through today because knowledge is back basalt everything's just on to pass just one source of income coming in it's it's you know basically living on my Monday so everything she's just running out quicker than normal because Naaman your project myself but having knowledge your back it's just everything it's gone up in the air we've got a goal to the Job Center in Northfield and tell them that we're back together so fill out thousands of forms you've got to do all the rigmarole again of claiming as a couple again hopefully they'll be calling Tolson get our money sorted out as soon as possible but from past experiences I can't can't say that yourself mom and dad went to the DSS today but I don't think they're getting anywhere with these they're always in a position which is really really bad but no I think they always try and it's it's not nice being in that position because you you can't get what you want and that but we have to live with that at the moment is really awkward for me because I've got two birthday's coming up and also Christmas as well where I'm going to farm and wonderful from a presence I don't know the mums depressed because she's got no mana and she's depressed because the money he has to come through but it doesn't come for a she's worried for like a week or so and now I wouldn't still give it up maybe some tissue please our Craig is knowledgeable they smell got some bike see if you're van has now been lifted once again he's free to look for work as a bus driver as you could say it's like the cry for local transport companies do swimming clear driving over predetermine routes keeping a time schedule for involve handling cash issuing tickets must have a clean appropriate driving licence but I am legal to drive when you get your license back does that then mean that it's it will be cleaner Yang's buddy without burning for something that's looking for a job hopefully he's gonna get why not be really good proves me I have loads of money we could do what we want and we table and she made me scrub the whole table which I didn't do and I told her I didn't do it because he felt like me to Smith that I didn't do and I get angry and I give them lots of my mouth you might be feel really really crap right but you don't care don't kill your mama then there's it just you teach and you know what they're just passed it out but they're going on to a nice house what you do you're coming out and you might be made to do all those jobs you've been punished by being sent to your roof I'm getting very stressed over all these Simon I can't cope with it so you're not just hurting yourself you're hurting me as well you're dragging me down what's that those to die like I just couldn't handle anything nothing you know with May and my depression I think I affect the kids already do because I'm up and down and if you're not stable yourself I can you absolute in a family as a punishment for her bad behavior Amy must do all her sisters tools for the next months my friends wouldn't let me but she said to me go ahead will be no Eve because you'll only end up there and the dog thing that's you she would pack it all off of course I don't know okay because my mom's already stressed by all folks like arguing all the time yeah yeah yeah that's all we do even all do it but she's mr. just because somebody can't be bothered information on so now we've we've done or what we're gonna get prize we can't go shopping we can't do anything until they sorted the money out here [Music] I do tell her off when she rings up mum oh god I'm a tenor this week I'm til Monday it's time to get me through till the next day but she will struggle to pay me back I feel as though I'm doing more Duty this house is but least evening and at least at least why having missed Tampa at the catalogue means off we know we guaranteed some food of some sort you know at least the kids can have some sort of a decent Christmas you know Avery for the DSS mess off we went on holiday when we come back what mum says holiday I was part of Ralph's Christmas present and he's a big color that's a lot of money to buy just stand there for two weeks mama must spy fruit now Maxine borrowed 300 pounds to pay for the girls caravan holiday in weston-super-mare just get my book only to give how much you've gotta give are spending 50 pounds to redeem their wedding rings from the local pawn shop cut your wedding bands what you're doing sister that she should yeah [Music] it's just nice to say noise with he's only sound being there Monday morning that you order because he's getting help and he's really really try you know he's being absolutely I want at the moment [Music] it just signifies such a lot to me it's not togetherness it makes me feel complete at the end of the day my mom said it doesn't matter if she doesn't get present or if she said is to give our family love and care and not be horrible and again go downstairs and you can pull it in the wash it don't start that's why she's trying to tidy the room and you're messing it up yeah listen CJ books you read enough trouble kids they seem resilient to things but then you can see it coming out you know through different ways they seem to be reacting to things whereas they wouldn't react to need another time [Music] when we found from it's still Christmas then oh we really really want a new house I always feel like crying because of this because it's horrible and it's just not good for us we need a four bedroom a five bedroom house and I really need it because we want to just leave our life not everybody else's but some people out there haven't got a house even the light of course my family is getting better and better every day but the house in the house isn't just falling apart it's just getting worse when I first moved into these house mmm believe it or not I was quite not house prayed but I did my jobs I used to do the kids rooms no I just shut the door she's just fighting a losing battle everything that we've sort of tried to struggle to get together you know decides she sort of destroying me the mold and the wet just went awful in this house when I lay down and put my head down on the pit I'm always getting wet and my pillow always smells when it's down there my mum and dad decided that that's gonna run smoothly through the back of that so I don't get almost you know sweat and move it all the wards our sofa to lean on remember that bed that I will slipped on one Oh Mikey look away that's been taken down - and if I play feel better spread it and a really good because nothing's gonna happen to me or not get my hair where peeler because beck has got a bunk bed and Cali sleeps at our favorite partner then all sleep with better and our hope it's gonna be really good in there the house puts a lot of pressure on both of us and it does what he made that knowledge or will sleep up because of the de precios that he's under beam him here because of being in the same room we'd love him as well she's interrupting my sleep every night Samia nodular not getting that closeness together of a nighttime boy so even mean he mother got a proper relationship at the moment as it stands at the moment he's doing well under the circumstances but it does it does worry me that you know precious of not living a normal life can make you revert back demolition of the estate is scheduled for April and some families have already been rehoused Maxine and Nigel are keen to find out when it will be their turn all went down the council advise it that I said if you want a four-bedroom house you're gonna have to wait free and that's all of this we've got rewind for another 12 months again didn't care at all and she stood there the points in a finger of me you're telling me I can't have a car never can have well you mean in the way I feel it just wasn't the right thing to do because I really got my back up in our I'll I'll keep my up off that I probably shouldn't have said a few things that I said but you know I didn't expect to get that sort of treatment and he you know he did overreact as in be nasty but I mean if I hadn't spoke to him like that he would not have reacted like that you know I mean he said a few things he shouldn't have said and you know we sort of stormed out and as a result of that we've got a caution letter telling us that if he does it again and basically we don't take further action against us so they just don't wanna knock them I just feel worthless people just go back to your estate and rot well probably be the last people to get out now and you're like cuz of my outburst and the council probably to look at me now think oh yeah back of the Kiev but if that's what they say and that's what I say by the end of the day I'm sitting there laughing cuz I'm the one that's stuck in there and the dad I can't Frome yet so at the end I'll get what I want my family if I don't like and that's tough she's getting worse large how did you take it off man that looks terrible to me [Music] my life could be worse than it is now but it's okay you'll have to just live in this house until we can know what and we just have to just be calm and just just go with it go with the people that's what the side but we will get through it one day I think my mom's done really well why not all respect her because she's tore the best it gets to a house it's not her fault that and she couldn't afford a perfect house but she says to us she's really gonna try again to try and get us a house she's gonna try from and if she finds mother and she's gonna tell us so if she frightened hooray we just go get our stuff that saloon get it into the round and they'll be gone anyway that's that's my family um me I've got a secret I cannot keep it it's just a whisper of a distant memory just a dream or so it seems take the back to the place I'd rather be you left a fire in my eyes I break up the darkest skies I'm giving up I'm letting go I'll buy my way so take me back too much
